what hv i gained?
frankly speaking, i wasn't so sure whether i've developed my soft skills throughout the semester..it was rather an abstract thing that i couldn't see it by myself..however, there were a few changes in me that i could feel and maybe i could relate them with the list of soft skills given..
communication-hmm..i'm no a good communicator and i could say that my communication skill is rather bad as i will find excuses to not to talk to the person whom i wasn't close to..but, through out this course, i've been talking and communicate a lot with my group members, the tutors and Prof Maznah regarding the assignments..well, guess my communication skill has been developed.
critical thinking and problem solving-in order to produce a tiptop work, of course i 've to use my critical thinking skill..being a good critical thinker requires me to be a good problem solver as well..so,both skills have been developed during the progression of my assignments.
teamwork-teamwork is very important in this course as all the marks will be calculated as group marks..so, i've been working and helping my group members in finishing the assignments so that everyone of us will produce a good product and of course good grades in return.
entrepreneurship-well,this is the first time my work is being published in the youtube website..in order to ensure my work is seen by people, i've to be a good intrepreneur.i've to sell my work so that people will see and comment my video.i've published the link to my video in friendster, facebook and myspace so that many people will realize the existance of my video.i guess this is one of the intrepreneurship skill that i've acquired!
all these are things that i hv learned throughout this course..

how to promote computer labs??
Many schools especially in Malaysia already have their own computer labs. Computer lab is a place where each student will get a computer and learn how to use the tools and software in the computer effectively.
Unfortunately, some schools did not use the lab to the maximum. Back to my school years, the teacher seldom used the computer lab to teach his/her lesson. The main reason was, by using computer lab; the lesson will not finish on time since most of the pupils did not know how to use it. Well, until now, I could hear the same reason by teachers in school.
So, how to promote the use of computer lab in school? First, teachers in school must ensure that pupils know how to operate the computer. This can be done by giving tutorial on how to use the computer in extra classes. Next, provide interesting activity in the lab so that pupils are eager to learn and do not feel bored. For example, by using games. There are many games for children in the internet that can be used. These are the examples on how to promote the use of computer labs.
video gaming
It is true that educators should be thoughtful about new methods, and they do need to plan how to adapt new technologies into their classroom. as a preservice teacher, I do encourage teachers and administrators to spend their energy looking for the benefits and capturing the value of using video games in education rather than trying to find reasons not to. The students are using video games and learning from them on their own. Educators now have the opportunity to be a positive part of that process.
In James Paul Gee, a UW-Madison curriculum and instruction professor, recent book, "What Video Games Have to Teach Us About Learning and Literacy," he says that "video games incorporate learning principles that reflect what researchers know about human learning". Still, Gee found that not only the games, but also the sorts of powerful learning principles they incorporate, are poorly represented in today's schools.
my future classroom..hmmm
hmm..so what will the classroom of the future look like?
well,this is what i imagine..
The classroom of the future will barely be a classroom. each classroom will have a Smart Board - interactive computer based white boards allowing the instructor/students to add to presentation, save for electronic distribution and for electronic interactions. besides, students will have their own personal computers. All their work will be project-oriented. Their primary content learning will be through highly individualized intelligent tutors (Knowledge Avatars). Teachers will help them with their projects which will integrate learning from various subjects. While the school will still exist because you can't have kids running around town unsupervised, the atmosphere in school will be much less regimented and the idea of grades or of subjects will disappear.
this is what i had in mind...=p

F.I.S.H!
FISH!??..by the time Prof Maznah mentioned about FISH!, what struck my mind is the Manhattan Fish Market Restaurant..wouldn't it be nice if i'm at the restaurant right at the moment and order my favourite Baked Pacific Dory..yummy~~..=p..but, of course the FISH! is totally different from what i had in mind. hmm..
well, what FISH! is exactly?
"FISH! is a skill that provides the process, tools and language to generate the skills necessary to design a workplace full of inspiration, creativity and innovation. FISH! creates a common language. A language that will help improve your culture by using four simple practices – Be There, Play, Make Their Day and Choose Your Attitude™. FISH! is a wisdom that everyone can embrace. It is an invitation that enables people to care about each other and their commitments. FISH! is an ongoing journey. It is not a fad. It is a practice and a skill that evolves over time creating a positive workplace and a vibrant culture each time it is embraced."
from the explanations, i could relate it with the classroom situation in school. a teacher should ensure that the classroom is in a good condition and full of inspiration so that pupils are highly motivated to learn..a teacher should also practises using the four simple practices
- be there- a teacher should always be wherever the children are so that they can always seek help from him/her.
- play-a teacher should always include games in the classroom activity so that childre can play with their friends. a teacher should have varieties in teaching process. instead of using the whole period talking and explaining on a particular topic.
- make their day-a teacher should always make the children's day full of enjoyment. this can be done by using interesting games in the classroom.
- choose your attitude-a teacher should choose her best attitude in communicating with her pupils so that they will not feel unmotivated and fear to come to the class.

smartboard a.k.a IWB
i've been introduced to this technology since i was in college..there was a workshop held in UM regarding how to use this tool..well, what is IWB actually?IWB stands for interactive whiteboard. The interactive whiteboard is an exciting teaching tool that enables anything you can do or see on a computer screen to be projected onto a whiteboard for all the class to see.
there are a lot of things can be done with this board.
- The whole class can benefit from computer-based lesson material without having to try to squeeze around a single screen.
- Lessons can be prepared in advance on a computer or a laptop, and classwork can be stored onto the computer using the interactive whiteboard. we can edit our material and store it as we go along.
- Interactive whiteboards allow material from a variety of media to be displayed. They are also very flexible in the sense that virtually any educational software can be used with them.
- Because they have evolved from existing technologies and are quite straightforward, interactive whiteboards are easy to use.
having said that, i'm still confuse on how to use it as i didn't get the opportunities to use it often..well, that's my fault..the board is always in the computer lab but i never have the feeling to touch it and learn how to use it..my bad!
the software is already inside my laptop and now i'm learning how to use the tool as using the smartboard is part of our assignment..i found out that whenever i use the software, my laptop will hang for a while and frequently i lost my work..maybe the software is not suitable with window vista..i don't know..but i managed to do the assignment..it's just that i have to save my work every 2 minutes..
well, hopefully this board will be available in every school as soon as possible so that every student and teacher will benefit from it.

still working on..
until now i'm still searching and trying out new software that could help me in finishing the video..luckily, my friend introduced me the power director software..since i was so bad in using movie maker, knowing this new software is a blessed..although some might not agree..i felt that power director is easier to use compared to movie maker..well, it's up to u to choose which one is the best..

theNextGenerationLearning2
theNextGenerationLearning
having said that, i wonder what will happen to the children in rural areas..especially in malaysia..they still don't have all these connections..all the knowledge that they know are from the teachers..so, what would happen to them?while children in urban areas move forward in high speed, they still at the same pace..i think that this technology will widen the gap between them..would it be a good impact? well, this is what i had in mind..=p

P.L.E.a.S.E
first day of the class..i learned lots of interesting things. but, at times, i was quite blurred. i didn't really know anything about the course..then,ms. ng asked us to fill in the forms and answer the questionnaire...i wondered if the questionnaire has anything to do with this course..as i went through the questions, i did realize that it was testing my knowledge on my computer proficiency level, my learning preferences and etc..etc....which i never think of before! wonder if i really know what ICT is all about!.then, the fantastic presentation made by Prof. Dr. Raja Maznah really opened my eyes ...i was really aspired by her presentation..with one word (PLEaSE), she could explain on how to become smart teachers in a simple way.the emphasis on PLEaSE really captured my attention..well,what PLEaSE stands for?
Personalize
Learning
Environment
and
Student
Engagement
develop SMART teachers
....a word that gave powerful meaning..i believed that this PLEaSE together with all the Cs~creativity, competition,
collaboration, confidence and etc..~ will make a big difference in developing a far better teaching and learning process in future..but, is it that simple to make the students as co-producers of their own learning? or we'll go back to the traditional way of teaching where the teachers do all the explanations.as a teacher-to-be, i realized that it was my responsibility to make the changes and considering that each student is different and unique in their own way, it really requires a great efforts.. that's why i'm still learning to build up my skills through PLEaSE! when it comes to the real class situation, what is the most important thing is, whether the children can learn effectively or not..that's all that matter!and PLEaSE will definitely help us to achieve this.
