P.L.E.a.S.E

my first post for this blog..=p

first day of the class..i learned lots of interesting things. but, at times, i was quite blurred. i didn't really know anything about the course..then,ms. ng asked us to fill in the forms and answer the questionnaire...i wondered if the questionnaire has anything to do with this course..as i went through the questions, i did realize that it was testing my knowledge on my computer proficiency level, my learning preferences and etc..etc....which i never think of before! wonder if i really know what ICT is all about!.then, the fantastic presentation made by Prof. Dr. Raja Maznah really opened my eyes ...i was really aspired by her presentation..with one word (PLEaSE), she could explain on how to become smart teachers in a simple way.the emphasis on PLEaSE really captured my attention..well,what PLEaSE stands for?

Personalize
Learning
Environment
and
Student
Engagement

develop SMART teachers

....a word that gave powerful meaning..i believed that this PLEaSE together with all the Cs~creativity, competition,
collaboration, confidence and etc..~ will make a big difference in developing a far better teaching and learning process in future..but, is it that simple to make the students as co-producers of their own learning? or we'll go back to the traditional way of teaching where the teachers do all the explanations.as a teacher-to-be, i realized that it was my responsibility to make the changes and considering that each student is different and unique in their own way, it really requires a great efforts.. that's why i'm still learning to build up my skills through PLEaSE! when it comes to the real class situation, what is the most important thing is, whether the children can learn effectively or not..that's all that matter!and PLEaSE will definitely help us to achieve this.

Yes, P.L.E.a.S.E. is a concept which i found it very interesting that can be applied when we do our real teaching. However, in some way, i think this concept is rather difficult to be implemented in the rural area school. What do you think?

hye hanem..
i felt the same..i felt blur at first..

regarding to P.L.E.a.S.E, i really hope that i manage to apply this to my students one day.hehe
i feel that our lecturers did practise this concept. They ask us to reflect, to summarize, to predict etc.. i like these cognitive strategies as they encourage me to think about something critically as well as responsible to our own learning.hehehe

P.L.E.a.S.E is difficult to be implemented in the rural area school?well, yana, i think it can still be implemented in rural schools. we can design activities that encourage pupils to collaborate, discuss and participate in learning..not merely on technology.

yes.i agree.PLEaSE should be applied in real teaching world.Personalizing things would definitely made learning more meaningful and effective to the student.Plus,it makes learning an adventurous exploration (which sometimes you must take the risk to get to know something).

to yana..

well, sorry dat i dun agree with u..the concept of PLEaSE can be implemented everywhere if u hv the passion to do so.believe in urself..it is not really difficult if u are creative in making it interesting.let's start with the simple one..i mean like faizah said..starting with simple discussion in a small group would be fine.last word for u..IMPOSSIBLE IS NOTHING..=p

we are actually on the same level. i wasn't sure what the course is all about. but the profile form: nah- its the trick to measure how good are we at techno and it really made me realized that im too far behind those who are tech-savvy. but to tough it out: i have a copy of CHIP with me. a great helper, really.

hye hanem.. i am also impressed with the PLEaSE concept.. impressed with the way prof presented too..yeah.. agree with faizah and hanem.. it can be implemented anywhere..remember maxis advertisement, its traditional, but it works.. same goes to our teaching, as long as we understand the concept, we still can modify to suit the situation, time and resources that we have. ;)

collaborative learning seems to be lacking in school nowadays...em..i think that is because seems our education is actually practicing the exam oriented system, so new discoveries and new ideas are sometimes taken for granted. teachers only teaching according to the syllabus that have been given. and the truth is always the teacher only have enough time to do the syllabus. no time for new discoveris and learning.even worst, as the teacher always been burden with other responsibilities, they cannot even finish the syllabus on time..there are the time when the teacher have to do extra classes to cover all the time that have been left out.seems there are no rooms for discusson over other matter right?
agree?
p/s: vote on my survey ya! maybe i can prepare u apost related to the survey later. :)
